If you’re craving something tropical, Fiji is a great place to get away from the craziness of life. Fiji is a short flight for us (3 hours from NZ) and we managed to get a package deal with Expedia.

However, we did go in the school holidays, so naturally, the cost of flights was high. Booking a package gave us 1-night accommodation free (valued at approx, $250NZD) and it was a 5- star resort. My partner was born in Fiji, so the chances of us returning is high.

Next time we go we’ll explore Suva but for now, you can find out what we got up to…

The place we stayed

Radisson Blu Resort

The Radisson is located on Denarau Island which has been designed for tourism. The resort itself had a wonderful view out to the ocean which we also could see from our room. The staff were very friendly and greet you wherever you go.

There are two pool areas; Adults and Family where you could have some quiet time for fun or play volleyball with the family.

The beachfront is connected to the other resorts so you can walk along to another restaurant in another resort or visit friends.

The things we saw

Denarau Island Marina and Port
If you are looking for shopping, bars and more food choices the marina is the place to go and is within walking distance if you’re staying on Denarau Island. The marina is also the hotspot for most day trips to the surrounding islands.

Tivua Island with Captain Cook Cruises
Best decision ever! Tivua Island was paradise! Crystal clear, blue water paired with tropical heat and great food. Captain Cook Cruises gave us a kava ceremony demonstration on the boat and prepared a delicious lunch on Tivua.

They also had an open bar so you could drink to your heart’s content. Hammocks, volleyball, paddle boarding, glass boating, snorkelling and island shacks. Yes. please!

The places we ate

Boi Hai Seafood
Boi Hai was recommended to us by our neighbour and we dined here at least four times during our stay. Boi Hai is located on the main road of Nadi town and is Chinese. The food was affordable and we even splashed out and got a crayfish. It was much cheaper than New Zealand the restaurants on Denarau island as some were selling crayfish per 100 grams.

Zig Zag Cafe
Your coffee fix, bacon and eggs, and cheesecake. It is located in the Proud’s building and if you have a rental you can park right outside the door without paying. Courteous parking is for Proud’s customer and because Zig Zag is technically inside it is covered. Plus, after you have had your meal you can explore the department store.

Bulacchio Cafe & Hemisphere Bar
Bulacchio is located on the main road from Nadi airport and Nadi town within a new shop complex. Surprisingly, it was full of tourist. People come for the coffee and the western food.

Sitar Indian and Thai Restaurant
Live band most nights, happy hour and good food. This place is great to come to with a group of friends. Drinks are relatively cheap so you can have a good time without breaking the budget. I think the best thing is the entertainment. The performers are good and the music is not overly loud — you can continue talking to the person next to you.

Blu Bar and Grill
This is at the Radisson. Best view in the resort as its next to the pool and looks out on the ocean. You could buy a main and get the free salad bar which also included desert. I ordered Shepherd’s pie and it was a generous serving.

Neptunes
Also located at the Radisson. This overlooks the ocean and styled like an island shack. This is where you go for your burgers and pizza. Pizza makes me happy! ?
